Alumina is a key component in the production of aluminum and is normally extracted from the mineral bauxite. Due to the dwindling supply of high-grade bauxite, coupled with the environmental challenges and high energy demands of its processing, options for alumina extraction from other sources are being sought. Thor’s black shale resource offers significant technical and economic advantages over traditional processing methods and is increasingly viewed as a sustainable alternative to the use of bauxite.
CGA (Chemical Grade Alumina)
Used in specialty ceramics and refractories, CGA is a alumina product prized for its thermal stability and mechanical strength. Ideal for high-temperature and high-wear environments.
HPA (High Purity Alumina)
Essential for next-generation technologies, our HPA is being engineered for a multitude of uses including LED lighting, electric vehicle batteries and synthetic sapphire production.
SGA (Smelter Grade Alumina)
SGA is the foundation for smelting alumina into aluminum metal.

Often included with rare earth elements with powerful strengthening properties and is used in aluminum alloys for aerospace, defense, and clean tech applications.
Vanadium is critical in steel manufacturing and energy storage. Its unique ability to increase strength and durability of steel makes it essential for infrastructure, while its role in vanadium redox flow batteries is shaping grid-scale renewable storage.
Recovery testing for Rare Earth Elements (REE) and assorted other metals is ongoing.
CEM has discovered and is poised to deliver a large resource of critical metals, including aluminum, scandium and vanadium.
